Why I Created WageOra

I'm Dev Sooriyar, a nurse and the creator of WageOra.

I'm passionate about nursing and helping people. Caring for others has always been an important part of who I am, and alongside my work as a nurse, I've developed a strong interest in IT and AI technology.

I've always been curious about how technology can make everyday life a little easier. That interest, combined with my desire to create something genuinely useful for people, inspired me to build WageOra.

WageOra began with a simple idea: make UK salary and pay information easier to understand.

Most people just want clear answers. What does a salary actually mean after tax? How will overtime affect take-home pay? What difference would a pay rise make? And how does their pay compare with typical earnings in their field?

But understanding your pay is often only the beginning. What you earn can affect many of the financial decisions you make, from managing a household budget and considering a mortgage to understanding the impact of changes in your income.

That's why my longer-term aim for WageOra is to bring useful tools and information together in one place. Alongside salary and take-home pay calculators, WageOra can develop practical tools to help people explore areas such as hourly pay, overtime, bonuses, pay rises, employer costs, budgeting and mortgages, while keeping the information straightforward and easy to understand.

No jargon. No unnecessary complexity. Just clear, transparent and carefully sourced information and useful tools.

I'm not a tax adviser or financial adviser, and WageOra isn't a substitute for professional advice. Instead, WageOra uses official tax rules, authoritative data and clearly explained assumptions wherever appropriate, presenting information in a practical, transparent and easy-to-understand way.

As WageOra grows, I want it to remain true to the principles that inspired me to create it:

Thank you for visiting WageOra. I genuinely hope it helps you understand your pay and finances a little better and makes some of those everyday financial questions easier to answer.

What WageOra offers today

WageOra currently offers a set of free calculators: Salary & Take-Home Pay, Hourly Wage, Pay Rise / Salary Comparison, Overtime, Bonus, Employer Cost, and Budget. The pay calculators share a single tax calculation engine for the 2026/27 tax year; the Budget Planner works from the income and expense figures you enter directly. No account or registration is required to use any of them. See all calculators, How WageOra Works, and Sources for how figures are calculated and verified.
