UK Budget Calculator

Add your income and regular spending to work out your estimated monthly budget and see where your money goes.

Build a personal or household budget from your monthly income and expenses. Start with your take home pay, then add only the income and outgoings that apply to you. There's no need to fill in a long list of empty boxes. It's an informational planning tool, not financial, debt, credit or investment advice. Need your take home pay first? Debt repayments are recorded as a regular expense only. This planner does not prioritise debts, suggest consolidation, or recommend credit. See How WageOra Works for detail.

Don't forget the costs that don't happen every month

Some costs, like insurance renewals, car servicing or Christmas, only come round a few times a year, but they still affect a realistic monthly budget. Add them here and WageOra spreads each one across the year so it doesn't catch you by surprise.

How to use the budget calculator

Whatever frequency you enter an amount in, it's converted to a yearly total first: weekly amounts × 52, every four weeks × 13, fortnightly × 26, monthly × 12, never a rough "weekly × 4" guess for a month. The monthly and weekly totals in your result are then worked back from that same yearly figure (÷ 12 and ÷ 52), so every period matches up exactly.

      Building a budget by hand

Want to understand the method behind this planner? See our guide on how to build a monthly budget for a step by step explanation and a worked example. If you're paid weekly, fortnightly or every four weeks, see understanding your pay frequency for why that's not the same as being paid monthly. For annual costs like insurance or Christmas, see how to plan for irregular expenses.

What this planner does not do

This is a descriptive planning tool. It does not calculate mortgage affordability, borrowing capacity or repayment schedules; it does not prioritise or advise on debt repayment; and it does not recommend savings products, investments, or a "healthy" spending percentage. A rent or mortgage payment and any debt repayments are treated purely as expense amounts you supply. WageOra does not recommend that you buy, sell, enter into or change any specific financial product, does not arrange financial transactions, and does not make your financial decisions for you — see How WageOra Works for the general boundary this planner and WageOra's other calculators work within.

      Worked example

£2,200.00 monthly take-home pay, with £900.00 rent and £250.00 groceries entered, gives an estimated:

      Total monthly outgoings
      £1,150.00
      Left over each month
      £1,050.00
