Tax year: 2026/27

Enter your gross annual salary before any deductions.

Tax region

England, Wales and Northern Ireland share the same Income Tax bands in this calculator. Scotland uses separate Scottish rates.

Refine your estimate

Add pension or student-loan details for a more tailored estimate.

Modelled as a net pay arrangement: reduces your taxable pay, but not your National Insurance. Other pension arrangements can affect tax differently.

Why your payslip may differ

This is an annual estimate, not a reproduction of a specific payslip. Your actual pay may differ because of your tax code, payroll frequency, how your employer calculates PAYE for each pay period, benefits in kind, irregular pay, or payroll timing. See why your payslip can differ from a salary calculator for the full list of reasons and what to check.

How this calculator works

This calculator uses WageOra's shared UK tax engine to estimate Income Tax, National Insurance, and any pension, student loan or Postgraduate Loan deductions from your gross annual salary. Figures are calculated for the 2026/27 tax year using rates and thresholds verified against GOV.UK and gov.scot. See our How WageOra Works page for details.

What affects your take-home pay?

Your take-home pay depends on your gross salary, tax region, Personal Allowance, and any pension contribution, student loan or Postgraduate Loan you have. Income above a certain threshold also reduces your Personal Allowance, which can increase your effective deduction rate. The calculator explains this when it applies to your result.

Scotland and Income Tax

Scotland sets its own Income Tax rates and bands for employment income, with six bands from Starter to Top rate. National Insurance, student loan and Postgraduate Loan rules are the same across the UK.

Student loans and pensions

Select your undergraduate student loan plan (1, 2, 4 or 5) under Refine your estimate, and whether you also have a Postgraduate Loan. Both can apply together. Pension contributions are currently modelled as a net pay arrangement, which reduces taxable pay but not National Insurance. Other arrangements can affect tax differently.

Worked example

A gross annual salary of £35,000.00 in England, Wales or Northern Ireland, with no pension or student loan, gives an estimated:

Monthly take-home pay
£2,393.30
Weekly take-home pay
£552.30
Annual take-home pay
£28,719.60
