How this comparison works
Both salaries are calculated independently through WageOra's shared tax engine for the 2026/27 tax year, using identical assumptions for region, pension and student loans. This compares two full-year annual salaries, not a specific payslip. The monthly figure shown is that full-year difference divided evenly across 12 months, not a reconstruction of payroll from the effective date of an actual pay rise — an annual salary change that starts partway through the tax year may not appear in your payslip as this exact monthly amount straight away.
Works for decreases too
This calculator doesn't assume every comparison is a pay rise. Enter a lower new salary to see the estimated effect of a pay decrease.
What a pay rise actually means for your take-home pay
A £1 gross rise may not mean £1 more take-home pay — Income Tax and National Insurance can reduce how much of it you actually keep. See our guide on what a pay rise means for your take-home pay to find out why the real effect depends on your own circumstances.
Why your payslip may differ
This is an annual estimate, not a reproduction of a specific payslip. Your actual pay may differ because of your tax code, payroll frequency, benefits in kind, or payroll timing. See why your payslip can differ from a salary calculator for more detail.
Worked example
Moving from a £32,000.00 to a £35,000.00 salary in England, Wales or Northern Ireland, with no pension or student loan, gives an estimated:
- Gross annual increase
- £3,000.00
- Estimated annual take-home increase
- £2,160.00
- Estimated take-home increase per month
- £180.00
