Privacy Policy
What information WageOra handles when you use the site, and why, explained in plain English.
Last updated: 2026-09-16
WageOra is a personal project created and run by Dev Sooriyar. This policy explains what information is handled when you use the site, and why.
1. Calculator information
The figures you type into a WageOra calculator, such as salary, pension percentage, student loan selection, bonus, overtime hours, or Budget Calculator income and spending amounts, are processed in your browser. WageOra's calculators do not send these figures to WageOra's servers or to Google, and working out a result does not create a network request containing them.
That doesn't mean nothing ever leaves your device while you're using WageOra. Loading a page is still an ordinary website request (see "Hosting and technical logs" below), and on some pages Google's advertising systems are involved (see "Advertising and privacy choices" below). Neither of those involves your calculator figures.
Closing or reloading the page clears whatever you've typed in. WageOra does not currently save or restore your calculator inputs between visits.
2. Saving or downloading a result
Every WageOra calculator lets you save your result as a PDF using the "Save PDF" button. This is something you actively choose to do:
- The PDF is generated in your browser and saved to your own device, wherever your browser normally saves downloads.
- WageOra does not receive or keep a copy. Saving the PDF does not send it to WageOra.
The Job Comparison tool additionally lets you download your comparison as an editable file and open it again later. That file is also saved to, and read back from, your own device only — WageOra does not receive or keep a copy of it either.
WageOra does not currently use your browser's storage (sometimes called localStorage, sessionStorage, or IndexedDB) to save your calculator inputs between visits. If that changes in future, this policy will be updated to explain it clearly, including how to remove anything that's stored.
3. Hosting and technical logs
Hostinger provides WageOra's website hosting. Like most websites, when you request a page, ordinary technical information may be processed as part of serving it, such as your IP address, browser or device information, the page requested, and the date and time. This is standard for how websites work, and is used to provide the site, keep it secure, and troubleshoot problems.
WageOra does not use this hosting information to build a profile of your salary or finances, or to personalise a calculator result. WageOra's own use of hosting logs is limited to running and protecting the site. Hostinger has its own separate obligations as a hosting provider, and WageOra doesn't control every use Hostinger makes of information under its own arrangements.
4. Advertising and privacy choices
Adverts appear on a small number of our longer pages. At the moment that is eleven pages: our four salary profiles, the Salary Calculator and the Budget Calculator, the guide to reading your payslip, How WageOra Works, Sources, and the two guides on pay decisions written for jobseekers and for employers. Each of those pages carries one advert.
Adverts never appear on this Privacy Policy, the Terms of Use, the Affiliate Disclosure, the Accessibility Statement, the page explaining how WageOra makes money, the Contact page, search results or error pages. Those pages are set to stay advert free. Many of our other pages carry no adverts today simply because they are shorter, and that could change if we expand them.
On the pages where advertising is shown, Google and its advertising partners may process technical information, such as your IP address and device or browser information, and may use cookies or similar technologies, where applicable. Personalised advertising, where shown, depends on the consent choices available to you. Where personalised advertising isn't shown, for example because you haven't consented to it, Google may show non-personalised advertising instead. Non-personalised advertising can still use cookies or similar technologies, for example to limit how often the same ad is shown or for aggregated reporting, where legally permitted.
Google may also use its own advertising information and systems, which can include your previous activity or interests, depending on your settings and privacy choices. This means WageOra cannot promise that an ad is chosen only from the subject of the page you're viewing. WageOra does not intentionally send the salary, tax, pension, budget, bonus, overtime or other figures you enter into a calculator to Google or any advertising partner, and does not use those figures to target advertising.
Where required, including for visitors in the UK, the European Economic Area (EEA) and Switzerland, Google's own privacy and consent system offers relevant visitors a choice about advertising. Where that consent control is shown, you can use it (often labelled "Privacy and cookie settings") to review or change your choice at any time.
This Privacy Policy page itself does not carry advertising and does not load any AdSense or consent-management script.
5. Analytics
WageOra uses a consent controlled Google Analytics 4 integration, delivered only through Google Tag Manager. There's no second, standalone analytics script.
Analytics only ever runs after you make an active choice. On your first visit you are offered a clear, analytics-only choice, separate from any advertising choice described above and never granting one. Before you choose, if you choose "Reject", and after you withdraw a previous "Accept" choice using the "Analytics settings" control described below, no analytics request is made and no analytics cookie is set.
If you choose "Accept analytics", the only event WageOra configures is one page-view record for each page you view. It contains the page title, a cleaned-up page address and path and, where applicable, a cleaned-up address for the site or page you arrived from. Search terms and other query details are removed first. It never includes anything you type into a calculator or its results, a search box, a budget label, or the contents or name of a saved or opened result file, and WageOra does not configure form, search, scroll, video, link or download tracking.
After you accept, Google Analytics also processes the standard technical information needed for its measurement service. This can include a pseudonymous client identifier stored in the first-party _gacookie, session statistics, approximate location and basic browser or device information. Granular location and device collection, Google Signals, user-provided data collection and advertising personalisation are disabled for this integration.
A persistent "Analytics settings" control lets you withdraw a previous "Accept" choice at any time. Withdrawing stops further analytics activity and removes the first-party analytics cookies WageOra's own page can access, though it cannot erase a record already sent to Google before you withdrew. This analytics choice is entirely separate from, and never grants, any advertising consent — see "Advertising and privacy choices" above.
6. Email and contact
If you email help@wageora.com, the information you choose to include, such as your email address, name, and the content of your message, is personal information you've given to WageOra. It's used to respond to your enquiry and manage any necessary follow-up. It isn't used to personalise advertising, and it isn't sold.
7. Why we use personal information
WageOra relies on legitimate interests as the lawful basis for most of the limited information described on this page. This means there is a genuine reason to use the information to run or protect the site, balanced against people's privacy rights.
- Hosting and security: legitimate interests in operating, protecting and troubleshooting the site.
- Email correspondence: legitimate interests in receiving, managing and replying to enquiries, and keeping an appropriate record where necessary.
- Advertising cookies and similar technologies: where consent is legally required, it's handled by Google's own consent system, and you can review or change your choice through the advertising privacy controls described above. Google is responsible for presenting that choice and for its own lawful basis.
- Analytics: relies on your consent, collected and withdrawable through the "Analytics settings" control described above. Nothing analytics-related runs before that choice is made.
- Google's own processing: Google is responsible for its own lawful basis and privacy choices for the advertising information it processes. WageOra does not control, and is not responsible for, Google's own legal basis.
8. Services we use
WageOra uses a small number of other services to run the site:
- Hostinger provides website hosting and the technical operation of the site, as described above.
- Google AdSense, and Google's own advertising and privacy controls, are used on eligible pages, as described above.
- Google Analytics 4, via Google Tag Manager, is used on the site after you accept analytics, as described in "Analytics" above.
WageOra does not sell information to data brokers, and does not share it with anyone beyond what's described on this page.
9. How long information is kept
WageOra doesn't hold your calculator inputs at all, so there's nothing to retain for those.
- Correspondence you send to help@wageora.com is kept only for as long as reasonably needed to deal with your enquiry, any necessary follow-up, and any legitimate record-keeping or security need, not for a fixed number of days.
- A downloaded result file is controlled entirely by you, on your own device. WageOra doesn't hold a copy.
- Hosting and technical logs are kept for as long as Hostinger's own service arrangements require for legitimate operational and security purposes. WageOra doesn't set or control Hostinger's exact log-retention period.
- Advertising information processed by Google is retained according to Google's own arrangements, not WageOra's. See Google's own privacy information for detail.
- Analytics information, after you accept analytics, is kept in the Google Analytics property for 2 months for event data and 14 months for information tied to a user identifier. That 14 month period restarts each time the same visitor returns, so for a regular visitor it can run on beyond 14 months from their first visit. After the relevant period, Google's own arrangements apply.
10. International processing
Some of WageOra's service providers operate internationally, so information handled by Hostinger or Google may be processed outside the United Kingdom. Where that happens, these providers state that they use recognised legal safeguards for international transfers where required, such as adequacy arrangements or approved contractual safeguards. Not all processing happens in the UK.
11. Your privacy rights
Under UK data protection law, depending on the circumstances, you may have rights to: access the personal information WageOra holds about you; ask for it to be corrected if it's inaccurate; ask for it to be deleted; ask WageOra to restrict how it's used; object to certain uses; receive a copy of it in a portable format, where that applies; and withdraw consent at any time, where WageOra relies on consent (for example, advertising cookies or analytics).
Not every right applies to every type of information WageOra handles. You also always have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK's data protection regulator (see "Data-protection complaints" below). Email help@wageora.com to ask about any of these rights.
12. Data-protection complaints
If you think WageOra has handled your personal information incorrectly, you can make a data-protection complaint by emailing help@wageora.com. You don't need to quote any legislation, just explain what happened.
When WageOra receives a data-protection complaint, it will:
- acknowledge it within five working days;
- look into what happened;
- keep you informed where appropriate;
- give you an outcome without undue delay.
You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at any time. You don't need to complain to WageOra first.
13. External links
WageOra links to external sources, such as GOV.UK and gov.scot pages used to verify tax figures, and may link to other external sites. WageOra isn't responsible for the privacy practices of external sites you visit from a WageOra link; check their own privacy policy.
14. Changes to this policy
If WageOra's data practices change, for example if the scope of analytics or advertising changes, this page will be updated to describe the change before it takes effect, not after.
