Editorial Standards & Corrections
How WageOra sources, reviews and corrects the salary, tax and calculator information it publishes.

How WageOra sources information
Official UK sources are preferred for statutory rules — GOV.UK, HMRC, mygov.scot and gov.scot, as applicable. Salary and earnings data uses named sources such as the Office for National Statistics, never a competitor calculator or an unattributed figure. See Sources for the specific sources currently behind WageOra's figures.
How calculations are reviewed
WageOra's shared calculation logic is covered by an automated test suite, and every calculator's displayed result is cross-checked against that same shared logic directly, so a calculator can't quietly diverge from the engine behind it. Tax-year changes are reviewed against official sources before publication, and worked examples shown on WageOra are checked against the active engine rather than calculated separately by hand. See How WageOra Works for what this covers in detail, and Tax-Year Updates for when and how the configuration itself is reviewed.
How content is reviewed
Pages whose content depends on a specific tax rule or threshold are reviewed whenever that rule changes. Evergreen explanatory content, such as guides, is checked periodically for accuracy even when nothing about UK tax has changed. Salary and occupation pages follow their underlying data source's own release and review cycle, rather than a fixed WageOra schedule.
How to report an error
If something on WageOra looks wrong, use the Contact page. Details that genuinely help include the page URL, what you think is wrong, and, if it's a calculator result, the inputs you used and what you expected instead. Please don't send a payslip, tax code, National Insurance number or other personal financial identifier — WageOra doesn't need them to check a figure, and email isn't a secure channel.
What happens after a report
We review a report in roughly this order:
- read and understand what's being reported
- try to reproduce it, or verify it directly where that's not possible
- check it against the relevant official source or the actual calculation logic
- correct any error that's confirmed
- update the affected content or calculation as needed
- record a significant tax-year or calculation change through the existing Tax-Year Updates process, where applicable
We don't promise a fixed response time for this process.
Corrections philosophy
WageOra would rather correct a confirmed error than leave it unaddressed. Being told about a mistake is treated as useful, not as something to defend against.
What WageOra's calculators are, and aren't
WageOra's calculators produce estimates for general planning. They are not professional payroll, tax, financial or legal advice, and they do not reproduce an employer's exact payroll result for a specific pay period. See why your payslip can differ from a salary calculator for the detail, and Terms of Use for the full position.
